Asian Canadian Writing Beyond Authoethnography

The twelve critical essays collected here by Ty (English and film studies, Wilfrid Laurier U., Ontario) and Verduyn (Canadian studies and English, Mount Allison U., New Brunswick) reflect on recent writings by Canadians of Asian descent--works including but not limited to autoethnography--and investigate their themes and the mutual reflections between the works and the literary establishment's take on critical concepts such as "minority" and "post-colonial" literature. The authors considered include Shani Mootoo, Larissa Lai, Ken Lum, Paul Wong, Suniti Namjoshi, and Ying Chen, among others. The titular subjects of the essays include: 43 theses on autoethnography and complicity; anxious writing, absent subjects, and marketing the nation; the politics of gender and genre in Asian Canadian Women's speculative fiction; queering autoethnography, and the ethics of global citizenship.
