Auto/Biography & Pedagogy ─ Memory & Presence in Teaching

Elbaz-Luwisch (educational theory, U. of Haifa) has produced a volume on writing and theorizing about challenges in education using auto/biographical material as the prime focus. She examines mixing memory and desire, her mother's own story, mothering stories of teacher education, stories of teacher-educators, writing and teacher learning, imagination and pedagogy, autobiography and conflict in teaching and life presentations. The result is both a unique story of a teacher's experience before and after she began teaching, and a chart to follow in creating one's own story. Freema Elbaz-Luwisch (PhD in educational theory from the University of Toronto) serves on the University of Haifa’s Faculty of Education. She is the author of two previous books and numerous articles and the co-author (with Xin Li and Carola Conle) of Shifting Polarized Positions: A Narrative Approach in Teacher Education (Peter Lang, 2009).
