The Age of Direct Citizen Participation

Put together by Roberts (Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California), this anthology gathers 31 papers from the pages of journals sponsored by the American Society for Public Administration examining issues of direct citizen participation in public administration. The papers are organized into five sections that address introductory issues concerning the connections of citizen participation to public administration, review the policy sectors in which attempts to implement direct citizen participation have been made, illustrate the mechanisms by which citizenship participation has been brought into the policy process, summarize studies assessing the processes and outcomes of direct citizen involvement, and examine the state of theory development.
