Youth and the Extreme Right

With contributors from Norway, Switzerland, France, the U.S., Sweden, Canada, Germany, and The Netherlands, this multidisciplinary and international anthology treats the subject of youth and right-wing extremism. Mudde cites, historically, an academic emphasis on right-wing parties and their voters rather than extreme right activists, who can be difficult to reach and study due to their often hostile nature. He favors an interdisciplinary approach to better understand the complexities in the extreme right. Using a basis of factual information rather than common misperceptions, he aims to enable people to discuss the topic of the extreme right and youth in all its facets. Twelve essays are divided into three parts: explanations; issues; prevention and intervention. The first part is an overview of the extreme right with a focus on youth groups, looking at the various ways youths develop extreme-right attitudes and behaviors and how it is explained in academic literature. The second part considers prejudice and violence. The last section discusses intervention and prevention. There are references, notes, tables and figures, and appendix. There is no index.
