Chopin ― The Preludes and Beyond

Edlund brings together previously written analytical studies on Frederic Chopin's preludes and other piano pieces. He examines the preludes and works composed, before, after, and concurrently with them for instances of the Dies Irae motive, including the Sonata in B-flat minor, the Polonaise in C minor, the Second Ballade, and the Scherzo in C-sharp minor. He considers previous analyses of the Prelude in A minor, and discusses the Preludes in E minor and B minor in terms of Schenkerian analysis, the Prelude in A major in terms of deconstruction, analytical methods that are useful for preparing a performance of the Prelude in C minor, and the fingering, structure, and ontology in the Etude in F minor from Methode des methodes, in addition to the Second Ballade's structure, tonal gestures, and literary program.
