Discovery and Distinction in the Early Middle Ages ─ Studies in Honor of John J. Contreni

John J. Contreni was a major scholar of the early Middle Ages; this anthology of essays by scholars of the period is issued in his honor. It highlights new perspectives on the Carolingian renaissance. The book is divided into four parts. The first looks at authors and audiences in the period. The second looks at schools and scholars, including Spanish-Jewish and Italian. The third looks at context and connections between different parts of the early medieval European world. The last looks at visions and voices, providing analysis of some early medieval writers and their works. One essay (on the eleventh century) is in French; the others are in English.
