The title refers to the similarities contributors draw between Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan and the characteristics of the modern eco-tourist. Other stories of fiction and fact are examined here as reflections of the symbolic and literal search for adventure. Those stories include Frazer's The Golden Bough series, early science fiction, and the particular experiences of female mountaineers climbing Argentina's Aconcagua, among others. 作者簡介
Luis Vivanco is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Vermont. His research focuses on the cultural politics of environmentalism and ecotourism in Latin America. He is author of Green Encounters: Shaping and Contesting Environmentalism in Rural Costa Rica (Berghahn Books, 2006).
