The volume originated mainly from a September 2012 cognitive linguistics and philology conference in Wroclaw, Poland. The main themes are metaphorical and metonymic aspects of semantic structure, prototypical and gradual phenomena pertaining to linguistic categorization at various levels of language structure, and the need to develop theoretical tools. The 18 papers explore such matters as a cognitive linguistic view of ethnic and gender stereotypes in signed languages, the role of figurative language in political discourse, analysis of the verbal prefix -iz in Croatian using the corpus-driven method of cognitive linguistics, cognitive grammar methods in the study of Polish emotion verbs, and the role of textual value-triggering snapshots in valuation.
