Historical Archaeology of the Chesapeake

This book is a contribution to the field of historical archeology in two ways. First, it is a republication of a book establishing a historical and anthropological perspective on archaeology in the region of Chesapeake Bay. Second, the contents of the book are historical archaeology. By looking at excavations of sites in the region, contributors are able to find information about African American and Native American history and culture which is often not accessible in historical records, as well as information on Euro-American culture of the same eras. This information in turn can be used anthropologically or sociologically to look at cultures that did exist and still do exist in the area, social issues around such topics as race, class, and gender, and documentations of actual separations and connections among cultures, classes, regions, and groups.
