Visual Anthropology in Sardinia

Carta presents students, academics, and researchers with a wide-ranging exploration of the technique, methodology, and style of documentary films focused on Sardinia. The author has organized the main body of his text into five chapters, focused on observational cinema in Sardinia, ethnographic film, illustrative documentaries, Banditi a Orgosolo, and Tempus de Baristas. Throughout the text Carta focuses on how different experiences and identities are constructed in the films in question, and reflects on the differences between written ethnographic texts and documentary films. Silvio Carta completed his PhD in Italian Studies at the University of Birmingham. His articles and reviews have appeared in Visual Anthropology, Visual Anthropology Review, Visual Studies, Visual Ethnography, Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies, Interventions: International Journal of Postcolonial Studies, Political Communication and Studies in Documentary Film.
