Creative Circle Time Lessons for the Early Years

Weatherhead has been involved in education for 30 years, including the past 18 as headteacher of a primary school in northwestern England. She presents 26 Circle Time lesson plans and reproducible materials developed around 26 alphabetical themes, centralized around a lovable character of a bear. Each weekly lesson introduces a new poem or song and rhythm to go with it. Each poem or song is read or sung by primary-aged children on the accompanying audio CD; the companion CD-ROM contains all the poems and various materials for the lessons. The four main strands to the book are linked to the UK's Social Skills curriculum and enhance the themes of self-esteem, relationships, communication, and spiritual and moral development. The lesson plans are preceded by chapters explaining how to use the book and providing a general overview of Circle Time activities for both experienced and inexperienced practitioners.
