Documenting on the early history of Italy's transition into a immigration country, Andall (U. of Bath) focuses specifically on the experiences of African women migrants from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. She has two stories to tell. The first addresses the circumstances of women that came as autonomous primary migrants rather than as dependents. The other concerns Italian woman and society, exploring the experiences of migrant women as a reflection both of Italian women's transformed social roles and of Italian society's attachment to a particular conception of Italian family life.
