Maritime Strategy and Sea Control ─ Theory and Practice

This book focuses on the key naval strategic objective of exercising sea control.

It explains in some detail the theory illustrated by the historical examples of the main methods to obtain/maintain and exercise sea control. Each of the main methods for obtaining/maintaining sea control (e.g. destroying the enemy forces by a decisive action, destroying enemy forces over time-attrition, containing enemy fleet, capturing important enemy's positions/basing area, choke point control) and exercising that control (e.g. securing the flow of military/commercial shipping, landings on the opposed shore, destroying enemy coastal installations/facilities, support of friendly troops in their offensive/defensive operations on the coast, etc.) are explained in separate chapters. The aim is to provide a comprehensive theory and practice of the struggle for sea control at the operational level. It should therfore provide a guide to practitioners on how to plan and conduct operational warfare at sea.

The book will be of much interest to students of naval strategy, defence studies and security studies.
