Dr. Shoogo Ueno received a Ph. D. (Dr. Eng.) in electronic engineering from Kyushu University in 1972 and was an Associate Professor with the Department of Electronics, Kyushu University, from 1976 to 1986. From 1979 to 1981, Dr. Shoogo spent his sabbatical with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Linkoping University, Linkoping, Sweden as a guest scientist. He also served as a Professor in the Department of Electronics, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyushu University from 1986 to 1994. He subsequently served as a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo from 1994 to 2006. Between 1996 and 2004, he served as a Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, and the University of Tokyo. In 2006, he retired from the University of Tokyo as a Professor Emeritus. Since 2006, he has been a Professor with the Department of Applied Quantum Physics, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyushu University, and is a Professor of the Faculty of Medical Technology, Teikyo University, and Fukuoka.

Dr. Ueno is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE (2001), and a Life Fellow (2011), and a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, AIMBE (2001). He is a Fellow (2006) and Secretary (2012) of the Governing Council of the International Academy for Medical and Biological Engineering, IAMBE.
