Images of Change ─ An Archaeology of England's Contemporary Landscape

Penrose, a heritage consultant, defines archeologists as people who "look at other peoples' stuff and think about it." So she and three colleagues have looked at the constructions and spaces of contemporary Britain. The photos and text in this volume contains their thoughts. They are arranged in four categories: people, politics, profit and pleasure. Homes, hospitals, schools and public buildings are obvious things to study. However, the authors also look at motorway, abandoned railway lines, the underside of bridges where the homeless seek refuge and theme parks. Penrose concludes with a look back at the twentieth century, putting it in archeological perspective. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co.
