Teaching Counselors and Therapists ― Constructivist and Developmental Course Design

McAuliffe (counseling, Old Dominion U., VA) and Eriksen (counseling, Radford U.) build on their previous text on counselor education, Preparing Counselors and Therapists: Creating Constructivist and Developmental Programs (2000), to introduce guidelines for constructivist teaching based on shared meaning-making. Other contributors focus on constructing the gamut of introductory courses in counseling; educating supervisors; and constructing the helping interview and learning communities, from a perspective mindful of the moral and liberation aspects of counselor education.
