商品簡介
This edited volume is designed to provide an interdisciplinary exploration of the concept of color-blind racial ideology (CBRI). It first outlines the varying perspectives on racial color blindness, then debunks the myth by outlining current national racial disparities and by unpacking three key arguments used to assert a racial color-blind position, followed by the organization of the collection and a summary of each chapter. The book concludes with a discussion of future directions for researchers and practitioners. It notes the need for increasing the sophistication of empirical studies in this area and for disrupting the faulty logic of racial color blindness. Seven chapters are divided into three sections: theoretical and methodological foundations; context and costs; manifestations of color-blind racial ideology. Chapters are: down the rabbit hole; the color-blind racial approach; a broad and insidious appeal; understanding racial color blindness and multiculturalism in interracial relationships; an international perspective on color consciousness; telling on racism; seeing color blindness; the measurement of color-blind racial ideology; using ethnography and interviews to study color-blind racial ideology; the good, the bad, and the ugly; color-blind racial ideology and internalized racism among people of color; color-blind racial ideology in K-12 schools; raising awareness and reducing color-blind racial ideology in higher education; the impact of color-blind racial ideology on maintaining racial disparities in organizations; identity management strategies in workplaces with color-blind diversity policies; racial color blindness and black-white health care disparities; racial color blindness in counseling, therapy and supervision.
