Eighth grade is almost over, but graduation is in peril after Mimi Maloney and her classmates Patrick Cantwell and Tony Vivamano, find themselves under suspicion when a snow globe appears in Mary’s palm high above Mary Queen of Our Hearts, a mailman is attacked by masked, underwear-clad juveniles, and a Korean War-era hand grenade goes missing.

Police and church investigators want to know who put the snow globe in the hand of the statue of Mary on the church’s roof. There could be hell to pay, or at least, no entrance into Catholic high school for whoever's responsible. Suspicion falls on two of Mimi's classmates: Patrick Cantwell and his best friend Tony. The boys learn girlsare smarter than boys, as Mimi masterminds a cover-up that would make even President Nixon proud. But Mimi has problems of her own that she learns not even a hand grenade can solve.
