Regional Organizations and Social Policy in Europe and Latin America ― A Space for Social Citizenship?

The contributors investigate to what extent and how regional organizations in Europe and Latin America provide a space for the regulation and provision of social policies in the area of social protection, higher education and health. Focusing on the European Union, Mercosur and Unasur, they offer an explanation for the developments and changes in social policy governance, and analyse the impact of regional organizations on social citizenship following political struggle and contestation.

Andrea C. Bianculli is Research Fellow at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), Spain. Previously she was a post-doctoral fellow at the Freie Universitat Berlin and researcher at FLACSO-Argentina. Her research has been published in journals such as Regulation and Governance, Administration and Society, and in a number of edited collections.

Andrea Ribeiro Hoffmann is Visiting Professor at the Freie Universitat Berlin, Germany. She has worked at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, London School of Economics, and University of Erfurt. She has published widely in the areas of legitimacy, democracy and world politics, comparative regionalism, and EU-Latin American relations.
