Where We Dwell in Common ─ The Quest for Dialogue in the Twenty-first Century

This book originated on the steep slopes of Umbria, inspired by the ideas of the thirteenth century visionaries Francis and Clare of Assisi, who promoted dialogue in forms that were well beyond the conventional norms of their day. Drawn by their inspiring visions for open and dynamic exchange, which have fuelled the work of countless others since their day, an ecumenical and interfaith gathering: 'Where We Dwell in Common – Pathways for Dialogue in the 21st Century' took place in Assisi in April 2012, organized by the Ecclesiological Investigations International Research Network. There, over two-hundred and fifty people were gathered from more than fifty-five different nations to explore the prospects for ecclesial, interreligious, and faith-world dialogue for these times. This volume presents highlights from this historic gathering and invites readers to become involved as the conversation continues. Where We Dwell in Common offers Christians from every tradition ways to engage in active and constructive dialogue and resolution-seeking with their ostensible doctrinal "opponents."

Gerard Mannion holds the Joseph and Winifred Amaturo Chair in Catholic Studies at Georgetown University, USA, where he is also a Senior Research Fellow of the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs. Educated at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, UK, he is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Catholic University. He has authored and edited/co-edited some twenty books to date in the fields of ecclesiology, ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, as well as in ethics and philosophy. Gerard serves as chair of the Ecclesiological Investigations International Research Network and is co-editor, with Oxford's Mark Chapman, of the new Palgrave Macmillan Series, Pathways for Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue.
