In this collection of country case studies, European contributors in sociology, economic sociology, and the sociology of education draw on recent data to examine whether women have converted their educational success into gains in the labor market in Europe, revealing gendered patterns and gender inequalities in labor market entry in industrialized countries. Part 1 reviews the effects of changing educational pathways and institutional structures on gender differences at labor market entry. The rest of the book presents comparative country perspectives on how men and women enter the labor market in 10 European countries, as well as Australia, the US, and England.
