Developing Next Generation Leaders for Transgenerational Entrepreneurial Family Enterprises

Business scholars and specialists from Asia, Europe, the US, and South America (who are affiliated with the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Practices project) provide 10 chapters that explore how enterprising families develop next generation leaders and the role of values, professionalization, leadership style, and contingent factors. Chapters begin with mini-cases of specific issues, then examine the literature and case studies of specific firms demonstrating how the issues might be resolved. They address pathways for families to evolve from an individual leader to leadership capability, discussing the process of becoming a successor, preparing new owners for responsible ownership, and collective leadership; pathways families use to balance family values with professionalization needs, including the role of learning and organizational structure, and company culture and decision making; and structure and next generation leader preparation, with discussion of the role of trust, social capital and transgenerational learning, and parenting styles.
