Occupational Mobility Among Scheduled Castes

Following independence, the Indian government instituted provisions of a protective discrimination policy for the scheduled castes, i.e. castes officially recognized as having historically suffered from social, economic, and cultural exploitation in India's hierarchical caste system. In this work, Karade (sociology, Tilak Maharashtra U., India) provides an empirical examination of intergenerational and intra-generational occupational mobility among three generations of scheduled caste employees in urban higher education settings. Jagan Karade is lecturer in sociology at Tilak University, Pune (India). He is ICSSR fellow. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Mumbai. Dr. Karade is an author of Reservation Policy and Reality (Sugava,2005) and Rastravadi Dr.Ambedkar (Sumedha,2007). He edited books, entitled, Dhammkrantichi Falshruti (Taxila,2006), Jagtikikarn :Bhartasamoril Awhane (Diamond,2008) and Development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in India.
