Understanding Human Anatomy and Pathology ─ An Evolutionary and Developmental Guide for Medical Students

Inspired by a NESCent (Nat Evol Synthesis Cent) workshop, this book will be based on the authors' work and synthesis of the literature. It has three goals: 1) demonstrating the usefulness of evolution; 2) helping students to understand topology, function and variation in gross anatomy; and therefore 3) decreasing the gap between medical and evolutionary biology education. This approach to medical instruction and clinical practice promises to positively impact medicine. Evolutionary theory is not a part of medical curriculum today, causing a paradoxical gap between what students learn gross anatomy and what understanding can reveal about disease and therapy. This book will fill this gap.
