The Danube Cycleway ─ From Budapest to the Black Sea

This guidebook describes the Danube Cycleway along the lower part of the River Danube through Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Romania. The 1717km long route is split into 32 stages averaging about 50km, and will typically take 3-4 weeks to complete. Following part of EuroVelo 6 (EV6) trans-continental cycle route, the cycling is mostly level, with long stretches off-road on flood dykes, or on quiet roads alongside the flood plain.

In contrast to the sections through Austria and Germany, the lower Danube Cycleway goes through regions without a well-developed tourist infrastructure, and cyclists will need to plan ahead and be more self-sufficient. However, it is well within the capabilities of most cycle tourists. The route visits the great cities of Budapest and Belgrade, passes the rugged and spectacular Iron Gates gorge, and ends in the Danube Delta, Europe's largest area of natural wetland.
