Pragmatics Applied to Language Teaching and Learning

Calling for the incorporation of pragmatics (the linguistic subfield concerned with the ways context contributes to meaning) into foreign/second language teaching, the editors (a trio of professors of philology and translation from Pablo de Olavide U., Spain, and one professor of English at the U. of Seville, Spain) present 20 chapters exploring the advantages of dealing with pragmatic issues in the foreign/second language teaching class and examining pragmatic perspectives on particular aspects of foreign/second language teaching. They are organized into five sections dealing cognitive issues in second language instruction, teaching languages across cultures, intercultural aspects of communication, teaching languages for academic and specific purposes, and other methodological issues on pragmatics teaching.
