Health and Medical Informatics Education in Europe

Health and medical informatics have grown out of the growing practice of applying the possibilities of information technologies to the field of healthcare. Mantas (Laboratory of Health Informatics, U. of Athens, Greece) presents 35 contributions, drawn from the Third European Conference on Health Telematics Education (1998), that cover both the implementation of informatics courses in certain countries, as well as certain applications and experiences. The contributions are organized into sections discussing health and medical informatics curriculum development; health and nursing informatics curriculum; health informatics training of healthcare professionals; simulation technologies; telematics technologies in education; knowledge-based approaches in education; and administrative and financial issues of implementation experiences.
