Teacher Learning and Leadership ─ Of, By, and for Teachers

Shows how teachers should be put at the center of creating, developing, organizing, implementing, and sharing their own ideas for school change rather than being passive recipients of knowledge from the outside. The book draws on the innovative Teacher Learning and Leadership Program in Ontario and provides a case study of how professional development around collaboration, teacher leadership, curriculum development, technology and pedagogy – important issues for schools everywhere - can be organized in a way that shifts the power and responsibility to the teachers, and outlines the multi-level process required in the decision-making culture of the system and the teaching culture of the system and its schools to support it. The book provides an important model for school change led by teachers, rather than experts.

Ann Lieberman is an emeritus professor from Teachers College, Columbia University and now Senior Scholar at Stanford University. She was a Senior Scholar at The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for the past ten years. She was also the President of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in 1992.
