商品簡介
Inspired by the conference “Mediated Pasts: Visual Culture and Collective Memory,” held in Leicester, UK, in June 2014, the 13 essays in this volume examine the relationship between memory, history, and nostalgia in different media forms: fiction and documentary films, dramatic and journalistic television, online media, magazines, visual art, museums, and ephemera, as well as the relationship between different media. They examine history and memory in visual media, particularly contemporary films and TV, such as Pleasantville, Mona Lisa Smile, Far from Heaven, Mad Men, Backs to the Land, Land Girls, and Foyle's War; the depiction and negotiation of feminist histories and memories in factual media, including Watch the Woman, the feminist magazines Ms. and Spare Rib, and the SlutWalk movement; contemporary cinematic style, memory, nostalgia, and digital technologies in Submarine, Super 8, Frankenweenie, and Room 237; and memory, nostalgia, and mediated spaces, objects, and ephemera, with discussion of changes to BBC material after Jimmy Savile was exposed as a pedophile, childhood television memories, the role of cultural memory in Untitled Film Stills, and the role of television in the National Space Centre in the UK. Contributors are media, film studies, history, and journalism scholars from Europe. Annotation ©2017 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
