Non-surgical Control of Periodontal Diseases ― A Comprehensive Handbook

This handbook has been designed for all clinicians (hygienists, general dentists, and periodontists) who are responsible for treating patients with a broad spectrum of periodontal diseases. It will enable the clinician to successfully meet this challenge by providing, in a concise and simplified format, both classic and up-to-date practical measures that address all aspects of non-surgical periodontal disease management. The reader is carefully guided through the extensive literature and body of accumulated knowledge in four broad chapters covering patient involvement in disease control and prevention, instrumentation for the diagnosis and basic treatment of gingivitis/periodontitis, pharmacotherapeutics, and supportive therapy to ensure long-term success. Numerous illustrations help to bring the presented ideas and suggestions to life and the succinct nature of the text will allow the reader to transfer information more quickly to their own clinical setting.

Paul Aaron Levi, Jr. obtained his board certification from the American Board of Periodontology in 1975 and has since worked continuously in the field. He is currently Associate Professor at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts and at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Sant Cougat, Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Levi has held many posts in the American Academy of Periodontology and since 2005 has served as an examiner for the American Board of Periodontology, to which he was elected Director in July 2012. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Clinician of the Year Award at the 2012 Yankee Dental Congress.

Y. Natalie Jeong graduated from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston in 2000. She has since worked in private practice in periodontics and surgical implantology, and in 2004 was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontology at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Jeong is also a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, Mass. In 2012 she received American Academy of Periodontology awards for outstanding teaching and mentoring in periodontics.

Robert J. Rudy graduated from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1970. In 1975, he received a Certificate in Periodontology from the University of Washington and then joined the faculty of the Department of Periodontology at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and opened a private practice in Boston. He was named Associate Clinical Professor in 1985 and Director of Pre-doctoral Periodontology in 1995. In addition, he serves on the board of directors of the SLB foundation, a charitable foundation that is in the process of building a pediatric dental clinic in Jacmel, Haiti.

Daniel Kiel Coleman gained a BS with Honors in Neuroscience from Trinity College, Hartford, CT in 2007 and obtained his DMD from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2011. He is currently undertaking a Post-Doctoral Residency at the School, leading to a Certificate in Periodontology. Dr. Coleman is also working in private practice. He is a member of the American Board of Periodontology and also of the Robert R. Andrews Research Honors Society and Nu Rho Psi (National Honor Society, Neuroscience).
