Special Education Law ― Cases and Materials

While the first edition was in the final stages of editing, Congress passed and sent to the president the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004; the arena of special education law continues to evolve rapidly. The fourth edition incorporates the many changes in the field, includes new cases on eligibility and damages, and provides coverage of the new Infant and Toddler regulations. This text is intended to be accessible and useful for courses in both education and law schools. It begins with fundamental principles and foundation cases, then offers an overview of federal legislation, defining cases, and sources of law. Subsequent coverage includes eligibility and evaluation, residency, FAPE (Free, Appropriate Education), individualized education, due process hearings, and court proceedings, among other topics.
