Public Health Significance of Urban Pests

Sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), this report provides a current analysis of the impacts of urban pests on health. Pest-borne diseases have become an all-too familiar part of our daily news, from West Nile Fever and Lyme disease to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The editors and authors are professionals in a variety of fields: medicine, biology, housing, pest management, environmental health, and risk prevention. The report includes several chapters on specific pests, such as fleas, cockroaches, and rodents, as well as chapters on the risks and hazards of pesticides and integrated pest management.
