Ecology, Capitalism and the New Agricultural Economy ― The Second Great Transformation

The book presents and applies French heterodox economics concepts to questions of agri-environmental governance in agrifood. The chapters focus on the development of products, markets, and social relations of production, consumption, and regulation. Specific attention is given to questions of environment and how ecological contradictions of industrial agriculture paly out in various contexts.

Gilles Allaire is an economist, Emeritus Director of research at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA). He was trained as agronomist engineer (Dr). His main research topics concern institutions, markets and agricultural policies; more specifically: rural employment, rural development, genetic resources, knowledge systems, organic agriculture movement, geographical indications, alternative food network and norms in general. He has directed several national and European research projects. He is member of the editorial board of the "Revue de la regulation".

Befort Nicolas (PhD) is a researcher in socio-economics, specializing in the emergence of a bioeconomy. His work is mainly dedicated to the analysis of the institutionalization of a bioeconomy and how actors are developing their identities in an emerging economic space.
