Crossing Borders - Boundaries and Margins in Medieval and Early Modern Britain ― Essays in Honour of Cynthia J. Neville

In order to study borders and boundaries in Britain, historians range from the medieval to the early modern, and across scholarly conventions that often separate studies of social boundaries from those of national borders. They cover marking and marking borders: conflict, crossing lines: gender and social status, and policing boundaries: jurisdictions and disorder. Among their topics are Henry IV and the Welsh March: the application and limits of royal patronage and Glyn Dwr's rebellion in South Wales 1399-1405, spies and intelligence in Scotland around 1530-50, participation in national politics: evidence provided by 15th-century parliamentary election returns from the county of Huntingdonshire, the ritualistic importance of gallows in 13th-century England, and crossing borders and boundaries: the use of banishment in 16th-century Scottish towns.
