The Gospel Of John ― Text And Context

Closing in on the end of his career, much of it devoted to the Gospel of John, Moloney (theology and religious studies, Catholic U. of America, Washington, DC) here compiles 15 previously published studies on it that might otherwise not be available to scholars. Most of them are fairly recent, he says, and so represent his mature reflection. He has cross-referenced the collection but made few changes in the texts themselves. In sections on history and theology and exegetical studies, he explores such topics as evangelization, the Johannine Son of Man revisited, the function of prolepsis for the interpretation of John 6, a story of two paracletes, and a Johannine view of the church. Moloney, D.Phil from the University of Oxford in 1975 is at present Dean of the School of Theology and Religious Studies and the Katharine Drexel Professor at The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He has published extensively, including major commentaries on the Gospel of John (Liturgical Press) and the Gospel of Mark (Hendrickson).
