Regional Economic Outlook, October 2018, Sub-saharan Africa ― Capital Flows and the Future of Work

This report summarizes the macroeconomic outlook for the region in the context of the global economy and outlines three possible scenarios for African economic development in the future. The first part of the book surveys economic recovery and rising risks-, looking at macroeconomic developments and policies. The second section delves into capital flows to Sub-Saharan Africa, describing the evolution and drivers of capital flows and their macroeconomic consequences. Coverage encompasses nonofficial financial flows, as well as domestic macroeconomic implications of various types of foreign inflows. The third part of the report looks ahead to the future of work in Sub-Saharan Africa, with discussion of machines replacing workers and policies for creating jobs. This section ends with three scenarios that may shape work in the region, emphasizing factors related to technological change, geopolitics, and climate change. Color charts are included.
