Koalas are tree-dwelling marsupials that are native to Australia. They are supposed to be Australia's national icon but today, it would appear that it is not the case. These beautiful animals are dying at a rapid rate due to natural and on a higher scale, man-made factors. The situation is so devastating that koalas are predicted to no longer exist in the wild by 2050. This book catapults us to the year 2050 and revolves around koala carer, Renee and the few koalas she tends to. 2050 brings us a world where the koala population has greatly dwindled. The few living koalas can only be found in wildlife parks, zoos and sanctuaries.Renee details what it is like taking care of the koalas and talks about their habits. The situation they are in presents a bleak future for the koalas. The future only gets bleaker when the last koala in the wild is brought in, hurt and dying.
