You probably agree with me in thinking that now or in the near future, the chance of a catastrophic asteroid impact on Earth is quite low. Asteroid hunters tend to agree. After all, they have a catalogue of big 'near-Earth' objects and none of them threatens our planet in the foreseeable future. However, any serious asteroid hunter will admit that a sizeable, unknown asteroid could strike Earth with little notice.
