Redefining Leadership Through Culture In The 20th Century

Over the years, the implications of culture and leadership have been a topic of significant research. Effective leaders understand that leadership styles can make or break an organization. For years, culture has been integrated into effective leadership strategies. Unfortunately, the definition of leadership fails to encompass many societal and historical variables related to culture. The purpose of this qualitative literature review was to understand the current definition of leadership and determine ways to make it more inclusive for various cultures. The four main cultures mentioned in this review were: black men, black women, black men in healthcare and black women in perceived aggression. This review recognized that cultural differences in leadership does in fact matter, and it should be acknowledged as vital elements in leadership practice. This review utilized over 40 scholarly articles to provide an in-depth review of the implications of culture and leadership and how incorporating cultural values into leadership practice can be beneficial. Additionally, this review provided abstracts and an index from a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal to further support the argument.
