Junkers Ju 287: Report 1944: Überblick über Auslegung und Entwicklung des Strahlbombers Ju 287

This publication is a reprint of a secret report from the Junkers company from September 1944 to the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM). The company reports technical and military data for the future planning of the Luftwaffe's bomber force. The six prototypes and additional test aircraft for components of the Ju 287 under development are described. Two pre-prototypes, Ju 287 V1 and Ju 287 V2, were used to test the forward-swept wing and compare the flight characteristics with wind-tunnel data. The Ju 287 V3 was the real prototype with the new fuselage and two triple clusters of BMW 003 jet engines. The Ju 287 V4 was build according to the V3 while the V5 and V6 would carry full defensive armament. A pre-series of 154 aircraft was planned, followed by the A-series, all with BMW 003 engines. The B-series would have better performance due to using the more powerful Jumo 004 C engines. With a take-off mass of 25200 kg (compared to 22800 kg for the A-series), a new landing gear would be needed.
