Since this book was written by a human being, it naturally reflects the nature, opinions and prejudices of the author. While I have tried my best to be as objective and truthful as possible, you may find it useful to learn from me certain personal qualifications that can help you, some of the extraordinary statements in the following chapters to understand better. First of all, there is the fact that I have never been close to death myself. So my book is not based on my own experiences, but uses other people's reports about their personal experiences. And because the material for my investigations comes from these sources, I cannot claim absolute objectivity for myself, because I was also emotionally involved in my work. When, like me, you hear a large number of people share their experiences, which form the core of this book, you almost get the feeling that you have had these experiences yourself. I very much hope that this attitude did not have any harmful consequences for the rationality and balance of my approach.
Second, I am writing as someone who does not have extensive knowledge of the rich literature on paranormal and occult phenomena. I do not say this to distance myself from it; rather, I am sure that a deeper study of this literature could have given me a deeper understanding of what I am working on. And I do now intend to study the relevant literature more closely because I want to know to what extent the research of others is supported by my results.
