"You'd think one big earthquake, a divorce, infertility and a dead second husband would be enough for any one person to suffer in a lifetime. I also lost my dog. We meet a colorful cast of coastal characters, including Donovan Green, known around town as the crazy artist who makes sculptures out of broken glass, pipes, and toilets; his niece Janey, who sings like an angel and speaks in exclamation points; the Rainbow Ladies Maryann and Dakota; Diana of Diana's Diner and more. Each proves the road sign that declares their town "The Friendliest" tells the truth.
