The ministry of the Prophet Elijah is a testament to the power of the Holy Spirit in every prophet's life. His life is the culmination of the work of holiness and glory that is at the very heart of God. However, as with all men, Elijah is not without his worldly struggles. He has experienced a life of despair and emotional unrest in having to deal with an evil prophetess of Baal named Jezebel.
Our first encounter with Elijah begins in 1 Kings 17:1. In this scripture we can witness the power of the office that is carried by those who walk with a prophetic mantle. There are some scholars who would want us to believe that the works of Elijah were for Elijah alone rather than the ability of every prophet who carries a prophetic mantle. These same scholars would lead us to believe that the works of Christ were for Christ alone rather than having been passed down to the church [John 14:12]. These scholars are called Cessationists. A Cessationist is someone who believes that the "miracle gifts" of tongues and healing have ceased-that the end of the apostolic age brought about cessation of the miracles associated with that age. Most Cessationists believe that, while God can and still does perform miracles today, the Holy Spirit no longer uses individuals to perform miraculous signs. This book will dispel that misnomer of the cessation belief much to the dislike of those who walk in the cessation theology.
The Elijah anointing is for every believer not just prophets. It is manifested through the actions of the Holy Spirit in order to establish God's kingdom and salvation message to men. In 1 Kings 17:1 Elijah immediately begins with the use of the power of his office and causes a great drought to enter Israel because of the unbelief and disobedience against God. Elijah addresses King Ahab in this proclamation. We must read the scripture as it is written. The Lord did not instruct Elijah directly to proclaim this decree. However, through his prophetic calling God honored his proclamation in bringing the drought. God even went so far as to honor the word of Elijah when he told Ahab that the drought would not end, "except by my word" [v1]. In this statement we begin to understand the authority the Lord gives the prophetic office. It is His heart and it is His ministry. The office of the Prophet was established at the foot of Mt. Sinai [Deut. 18:15].
In this book I will establish the authority and power that God has given to us by using Elijah as an example of His presence upon the earth. Elijah is very much in tune with an heaven and earth covenant. He is a foreshadowing of Jesus' ministry. The ministry that re-established our relationship with God and removed the exile from His presence. In all my years of ministry, I have come to understand that the Lord gives us precedence and power to declare His kingdom upon the earth and to stir the atmosphere with His prophetic anointing. A great part of the Elijah anointing is not just the presence of miracles and supernatural events but Elijah drew attention to the sin of the nation and the sinfulness of its leaders. Consider 1 Kings 18:18, "I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father's house have, because you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and you have followed the Baals." Elijah is rebuking Ahab for having forsaken the Lord and turned to the ways of the spirit of Jezebel. Elijah is referring to the command given their forefathers in the wilderness before God brought them into the Promised Land under Joshua. "But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall surely perish" [Deut. 30:17-18].
