The Crooked Line

Ronnie is a hard-drinking classically trained actor with delusions of grandeur and attitudes that were outdated even in the 1970s. He has been married five times - "every one a success" - according to him.

Bernard is from a working-class background and has risen to fame as a stand-up comedian on the working men's club circuit. He's the classic example of the funny man on the outside who is tortured by demons within, caused by the failure of his marriage.

When Bernard learns that his uncle has died, he and Ronnie travel to the will reading. They discover that all Bernard needs to do to inherit the entire estate is spend the night in a country house. He thinks that sounds like a clich? but they go ahead, nonetheless. Thus begins an epic adventure involving mysterious apparitions from the past, an ancient stone circle, and a chamber beneath the house that leads to both the past and the future.

Anyone who remembers the 1970s will love this nostalgic look back at a time when life was simpler, and the world didn't take itself too seriously.

The Crooked Line is the first in a series of humorous novels set in the 1970s, with mild horror and science fiction elements. Look out for the sequel, The Haunted Theatre, coming later in 2023.
