In 2010 Nicolas Chabanovsky launched a Q&A community of Russian speaking software developers, hashcode.ru. By 2012 HashCode had grown into twelve communities on different topics and formed the Knowledge Network. In 2014 the Knowledge Network, and hashcode.ru, was acquired by Stack Overflow. A couple of years after the acquisition, Stack Overflow in Russian became one of the most popular Q&As for Russian speaking developers. In 2018 Nicolas began leading community growth for all international Stack Overflow sites. Since 2020 he has been focused on the design of health metrics for Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange sites, data analytics and community strategy.
In the book Practical Community Management: Lessons Learned While Working on Stack Overflow, Nicolas talks about the best practices for creating, growing and managing online communities, which he identified over the course of 14 years of work. No superficial or abstract concepts. Only time-tested practical advice, told in a structured, digestible way, through the prism of his personal experience in growing Stack Overflow communities.
