The apostle Paul has been justifiably described as the first and greatest Christian theologian. His letters were among the earliest documents to be included in the New Testament and, as such, they shaped Christian thinking from the beginning. As a missionary, theologian and pastor Paul's own wrestling with theological and ethical questions of his day is paradigmatic for Christian theology, not least for Christianity's own identity and continuing relationship with Judaism. The Cambridge Companion to St Paul provides an important assessment of this apostle and a fresh appreciation of his continuing significance today. With eighteen chapters written by a team of leading international specialists on Paul, the Companion provides a sympathetic and critical overview of the apostle, covering his life and work, his letters and his theology. The volume will provide an invaluable starting point and helpful cross check for subsequent studies.

For many years, the prevailing view of African capitalism stressed its dependence on state and foreign capital and therefore its inability to make a significant contribution to African development. Drawing upon material from a number of countries and a range of academic disciplines, this 1988 book provides an analysis of African capitalism which offers a much more positive view of its role. The book suggests that a number of major constraints have combined to obstruct the emergence of dynamic African capitalist bourgeoisies: foreign competition, the cultural climate, the dependency factor in African economic life, the evolving class structure, the quality of indigenous enterprise and the nature of politics, ideology and state power. All these are assessed and found to be significant, but in the final analysis, it has been in the arena of politics and ideology, centred on the struggle to exercise state power, that the fate of private indigenous capitalism has so often been determined.
From NBA All-Star Chris Paul comes an inspirational picture book for fans of I Promise about chasing your dreams and the lessons he learned both on and off the court from his beloved grandfather Papa Chilly.Growing up, Chris Paul dreamed of playing pro basketball. But he knew it would take more than dedication, so Chris looked to his grandfather Papa Chilly as a shining example of the values he could apply both in basketball and in life. Papa taught him about respect, faith, kindness, and the determination to succeed, just as Papa had succeeded as the first Black owner of a service station in North Carolina. Serving as a beacon of inspiration, Papa Chilly and his lessons propelled Chris to become the star NBA player―and person―he is today. Basketball Dreams, which is beautifully illustrated by Courtney Lovett, shows us that dreams really can come true, especially when we have amazing role models to help guide us. Perfect for fans of I Am Perfectly Designed, Flying High, and I Promise.
