Corporate and Social Transformation of Money and Banking: Breaking the Serfdom

The financial sector, with its mono-currency system, appears increasingly divorced from the productive sector and is not always well-served by the traditional banking mindset. This book provides new insights into the dynamics taking place in the wider financial system and suggests we are in the midst of a sixth Kondratieff cycle, or Information Revolution. The Changes, like the Industrial Revolution, are transforming fundamental physical and social structures. This book provides complementary and contrasting theoretical bases (from Marx to Hayek) for examining these Changes, along with empirical examples, and identifies how serfdom to the mono-currency system can be broken within the Information Revolution. Activity by a range of non-banks, including technological, social and corporate entities, is well-placed to provide real competition to the traditional banking sector.

Simon Mouatt is Senior Lecturer in Economics at Southampton Solent University, UK. His research focuses on the erosion of state (financial) sovereignty, and general transformation of the capitalist credit system, from a Marxian perspective. He is interested in all aspects of monetary theory, and the functioning of capitalist financial relations.
Carl Adams is Principal Lecturer in the School of Computing at the University of Portsmouth, UK. His research focuses on electronic money systems, mobile information, innovation cycles, open-source software and the input of new technology on society.
