Certain Victory ─ Images of World War II in the Japanese Media

A product of 20 years of research, this work represents Earhart's close involvement with Japan (where he was born and lived for many years) and his scholarly interests in World War II and modern Japanese culture. He has gathered an incredible collection of images and materials, which he has translated, and he offers interpretation of each piece of propaganda in terms of Japanese military conquest and national identity. The first six chapters focus on the mobilization to war of Japanese society, largely prior to 1942. The final six chapters follow Japan's war against the United States, from Pearl Harbor through Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
