Alternative Media in Canada

This collection of 13 essays explores the context and development of alternative media in Canada. Organized into three sections, the essays focus on themes of the structure of existing media in which alternative forms emerge, democratic participation in mass communication, and how alternative media empower communities and otherwise support activism. Some specific essays look at sustaining independent and alternative media, public service educational broadcasting, ethnic and indigenous media, alternative media from a labor-perspective, DIY zines, and direct-action activism.
