《全國翻譯碩士專業學位（MTI）系列教材：翻譯與跨文化交際》的重點在於較為系統地向我國翻譯專業學生介紹跨文化交際的理論與實踐知識。儘管《全國翻譯碩士專業學位（MTI）系列教材：翻譯與跨文化交際》力求針對翻譯專業學生的特點設計教材的體系，結合翻譯專業學生的需要選擇教學內容，但並非系統論述翻譯與跨文化交際的關係，重點也不在於解決翻譯過程中的實際問題，而是著重從若干層面將翻譯專業學生引入語言、文化與跨文化交際領域，著力幫助他們較為全面地瞭解和認識語言與文化的內在聯繫以及語言翻譯過程中可能涉及的跨文化問題，為學習翻譯的理論與實踐打下一定的語言文化和跨文化交際的知識基礎。《全國翻譯碩士專業學位（MTI）系列教材：翻譯與跨文化交際》將著重從翻譯專業學生的實際需要出發，從翻譯過程中的跨語言文化問題人手，力圖較為全面地介紹國內外在跨文化語言交際方面的研究成果；應用社會語言學的理論較為系統地論述語言的社會功能以及在跨文化交際環境中語言、文化與交際之間的相互作用，尤其是漢英兩種語言系統和文化模式的差異在跨文化交際過程中（特別是在漢英翻譯過程中）可能引發的問題；為翻譯專業學生提供跨文化交際的基本理論與知識，以及引導學生應用這些知識去認識和解決翻譯過程中潛在的跨文化交際障礙，提高跨文化交際意識和翻譯能力與水平。．
